A STRONG SPORTS POLICY WITH A BUDGET OF NEARLY €14 MILLION

In order to support and promote sport in its region but also to promote the many benefits linked to sports, the South Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region has developed a new sports policy, in concert with the entire regional sports movement.
With a budget of €13.9 million in 2018, this sports policy is based on five key areas:

  • Help for clubs, leagues and committees
  • Support for top-level sport
  • Support for major sporting events
  • Construction of stadiums, gymnasiums and local equipment
  • Installation of state-of-the-art facilities in high schools

THE SOUTH REGION - PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D'AZUR, PARTNER OF THE 2024 OLYMPIC GAMES

As part of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is the region that will host the most events outside Paris, with sailing in Marseille, as well as football in Marseille and Nice.

An ambitious Sailing and Sailing Plan for 2018-2024

Faced with these challenges and to make the hosting of the 2024 Olympic Games a vector for accelerating the development and promotion of the entire region, the Southern Region - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is actively committed to the success of the event by launching an ambitious Sailing and Nautical Plan, with a budget of €21 million through 2024.

This plan has five major ambitions:

  • sporting excellence
  • the development of economic activities in the nautical sector
  • the development of an offer for training in the nautical and sailing professions, environmental excellence
  • the promotion and development of the regional economy and tourism.

These actions will boost the sports preparation of athletes, the construction of infrastructure and equipment as well as the operational phase of reception and promotion of the territory.

  • The America's Cup in Toulon
  • Bol d'Or at the Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet
  • Europétanque in Nice
  • Euro 2016 in Marseille and Nice
  • In 2018, Nice Ultimed in Marseille and Nice, and the return of the Grand Prix de France Formula 1 on the Castellet Circuit
  • In 2023 and 2024, hosting the Rugby World Cup, the Football World Cup and the Summer Olympics
  • 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games: hosting the sailing events in Marseille and the football events in Marseille and Nice.
